Evoramonte Walls and Castle
On a high hill dotted with hundreds of cork oaks and olives, to the extreme west of the Serra D’Ossa, rises the mediaeval castle of Évoramonte.
Standing at the highest point, the Tower, of 16th century Manueline military architecture, adds, in its splendour and its height, to the dissuasive strength of the fortifications. On the highest level, literally the nest of eagles, the delight of an endless view in complete silence, as though you were hovering over the landscape, permeates the observer.

Monte da Fazenda
Then, pass along the two streets of the village, and discover the gothic arches and immense chimneys of the modest houses, the ancient building of the Town Hall, the parish church of Santa Maria (16th century) and the Misericórdia church (16th century) with its elaborate tiles. An inscription on a small marble tablet indicates the house where the treaty establishing peace between the liberals and the absolutists was signed in 1834 – the Convention of Évoramonte.

Quinta Serafim
Later, discover the local flavours in one of the three restaurants inside the walls or outside in the new part of the village. At the tourist office you can view handicrafts, or find out about the artisans who work in the council area in pottery, leather, weaving, lace-making and embroidery, rug-making, marble, wood, horn, cork, cane, osier and straw.
Enjoy nature through excursions on foot or by mountain bike, but if your interest is more in the direction of architectural heritage, you have excellent collections of monuments in the towns of Estremoz or Évora.
