Working the iron
Working the iron
Local handcraft is strictly linked to the tradition of the mountain environment of the region, with some external influences from the close Austrian and Veneto areas. During the centuries the handcrafter were used to move within the region in order to display their skills and to promote their production. They were specialised on working the wood, the iron and other metals and to be tailors. Nowadays the situation has changed and handcrafter has turned their activity to a more entrepeuneral way, very linked with their territory.

The creation of sculptures, tools, towel and other items with wood, it’s the most common handicraft, especially in the upper valleys. The creation of items with iron is quite common in the areas where the hydric power is abundant (say Valle del Chiese or Primiero).
